Myanmar: Earthquake Response

Overview

Bible Society Myanmar (BSM) is providing urgent humanitarian aid to 1,000 households affected by the earthquake on 28 March 2025. In collaboration with local Christian councils, Bible Society will provide essential food, blankets, household supplies, and replacement Bibles, to be distributed in support of survivors and to help promote healing.

The 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck central Myanmar has left a profound impact on the region, particularly in Mandalay and Sagaing. With widespread destruction of homes and critical infrastructure, thousands are now displaced and struggling to meet basic needs. Many families have lost not only their homes but also their livelihoods, leaving them vulnerable and traumatised. Initial assessments indicate a severe shortage of essential supplies such as food, medical aid, and sanitation products. Additionally, the emotional toll on the community is significant, with many survivors experiencing loss and grief. Mandalay is a cultural centre of Buddhism, with significant Muslim and Christian populations.

Local churches have also been hit hard, with an estimated 100+ church buildings destroyed, along with many other buildings, leaving Christian survivors struggling to meet their basic needs.
