‘In God’s eyes, we’re all the same – the strong person and the weak child’

“I do small things every day. We have 15 children in our hostel, as well as our own family. The children in our hostel come from poor villages [in Nepal] and we provide for them so they can go to school. Every day, they need feeding and looking after and helping with their homework. Especially when they’re small, they can’t do anything. But they’re important.”

“In God’s eyes, we’re all the same – the strong person and the weak child. And Jesus welcomed the children. He said, ‘Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.’ (Luke 18:16) It’s my favourite verse.

“When I was growing up, I had eight  younger brothers and sisters. I had to care for them all – feeding and cooking and collecting the water from the tap and washing the clothes. Our family were Hindus. But after some time, my brother went away to college and he heard about Jesus. He didn’t tell me, but later I heard. I was sick with typhoid for a month and the doctor was away, so I prayed to Jesus. I was healed and I believed in Jesus.

“Later, I burned my foot in the fire and I couldn’t walk. That’s when God gave me a vision to care for the children in need. He gave me encouragement and a vision for my life – to care for the children and to keep going in the small things.”
