urgently needs our focus and prayer

This huge band stretches across North Africa, the Middle East and Asia and lies roughly between 10 and 40 degrees north of the Equator. It’s known as the 10/40 Window.

Two-thirds of the world’s population lives here – the vast majority in extreme poverty. The people in this region also have the least access to the teachings of Jesus. It is home to the majority of the world’s Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist people, and many governments are vehemently opposed to Christian work.

Over 156 million people in conflict who need the Gospel

Within the 10/40 window we have active projects in Iraq, Cameroon, Israel, Myanmar, South Sudan and Syria. These projects enable Bible distribution, improve literacy, provide trauma healing and bring light and hope into the lives of millions in need.

10/40 Prayer

We invite you to join us in praying this prayer each day at 10.40am (or in your own available ‘window’) in the lead up to September 21, the International Day of Peace.

Together, let’s uplift the precious people of this region in prayer.

Read the 10/40 Prayer

Creator God,

It seems more urgent than ever to pray for peace across this world you brought into being so long ago. Many of our partner Bible Societies are experiencing heightened stress caused by COVID-19, political unrest and violence, and extreme weather events; exacerbating issues of poverty, unemployment, family violence and poor health in the countries they serve.

Heavenly Father, we lift these nations up to you. May your loving hand be upon countries traumatised by conflict. You are the God of peace. We ask that you intervene and bring an end to this conflict. We pray especially for people and countries close to the heart of Bible Society Australia. For the Podoka and Mafa peoples of Cameroon; Sgaw Karen and Asho Chin ethnic minorities in Myanmar; Arab-Israeli Christians; the Shilluks in South Sudan and the people of Syria, victims of seemingly endless violence and uncertainties.

Lord God, many people in the 10/40 Window of the world have no access to your word. We pray for Bible Societies’ work in these regions, that each unique project will transform individual lives, giving people the eternal hope that is found in Christ Jesus.
