Christians to come out in force in Indonesia

Thousands of Indonesians are expected to come out in force to hear Dr Michael Youssef speak at revival meetings in Jakarta later this month.

Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim-majority nation, and Australia’s largest neighbour, has played host to huge Christian gatherings in the past few years, with news of Christianity’s rising popularity making headlines around the world.

This month, Egypt-born, Sydney-trained evangelist Dr Michael Youssef will again bring Indonesian Christians together, as they are challenged by Youssef’s question: “What is the value of your soul?”

Organiser of the revival meetings, Rev Dr Nus Reimas from Leading The Way and the Fellowship of Indonesian Evangelical Churches and Institutions, says Youssef is the first speaker with Middle Eastern roots to preach the “uncompromising Gospel” to the Indonesian people.

Despite its Muslim-dominated heritage, God has kept a door open in Indonesia, say Leading The Way organisers. Organisations like Leading The Way have been actively broadcasting through radio, television and large project distributed by solar powered audio Bibles called ‘Navigators’.

“Christians in Indonesia are very diverse in terms of denominations and ethnic backgrounds. But they are all united in the same and one confession that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior of the world,” says Indonesian Communion of Churches Chairman Rev Dr Andreas Yewangoe.

“On the basis of this confession, I believe that the Revival meeting held by Dr Michael will bring a blessing to the Christians in this country. I also believe that Christians in Indonesia will attend the revival meeting with great delight and enthusiasm.”

The revival meetings will run for three nights from 23rd to 25th May in Istora Stadium in Jakarta. Leading The Way is calling for Christians around the world to pray for Indonesia, for organisers and for all participants, that there will be a “bountiful harvest for the glory of the Lord.”

“The revival is held in the middle of Indonesia’s plural but also religious society, and I believe it would bring blessing to our nation. Spiritual wealth which is transmitted through the revival meeting would be a treasured wealth for the welfare of all people in this country,” said Dr Yewangoe.
